Phew, what a week! We high-tailed it to BAMA for my father in law's funeral over the weekend, and then I caught some sort of evil BAMA crud, and blah blah, yada yada, here we are.
Our trip was so nice! It just totally sucked that it had to be for such a sad reason. Man, we are all going to miss Bill SO much. If his funeral was a reflection of his life, then it was a life well lived because there were so many people who came to pay their respects, and there wasn't a dry eye in the place as two of his four grand daughters read letters to their Papa. There were funny stories and plenty of praise for him. It was beautiful.
The four grand daughters haven't been together in three years, so of course I had to snap a couple of photos of Papa's girls...
Lizzy, Taylor, Peyton, and Savannah. These chicks sure could drive him crazy, but he loved them to pieces and spoiled them rotten.
The 'Shorty' and 'Stringbean'...
Oh these two are a mess... they really should live closer!
When Big Dave's family gets together, you KNOW there's gonna be some jokes and big talkin'... especially from Uncle Ricky...
I can't remember what he was doing. That's the night I got into the cheap pink wine.
We reminisced and ate WAY too much food (WHY must hotwings be 3 Weight Watchers Points each????) There were tears and laughs and hugs and quiet moments as we all mourned Bill in our own way. Big Dave's family is so cool. They're the type of people that aren't afraid to say 'I love you.' I am surely blessed to count myself as part of this big-hearted family... even if I am just an 'in-law.' :)
We all decided that it's ridiculous that we see each other so seldom, so Big Dave's mom, 'Nana' has proclaimed that we WILL start visiting more often. It's stupid that we let life get in the way of taking time to just hang out with our loved ones, ya know?
Well, that's gonna change around here.

It's amazing how funerals make such good family reunions.

We just went through a similar thing with Jamie's grandma passing away. Jamie wants to plan a reunion now.
