That's right... we found a treasure under our icky old hall carpet... hardwood floors! I know, not very exciting for some, but for Big Dave and me this is the cat's meow. We got the wild hair on New Year's Day to take a peek under the carpet, and voila!
So of course we ripped it all up. We're spontaneous like that.

Shiny, warm pine floors. (That's a shadow over there, not a huge dark spot by the way.) They'll eventually get sanded down and restained, but for now they're a little piece of Heaven compared to that carpet.
In addition to the floor and painting the kitchen, we also got a happy new cabinet for over the washer and dryer. (Remember, we had to knock out a wall to make room for our washer/dryer?)
Well now it looks like this...

Big Dave also ran electricity out to our detatched garage/workshop so now we have lights hallelujah. No more thinking Freddy Krueger's gonna jump me when I go out in the dark to feed Puff the Cat. Phew!
I've gotta tell ya, these projects are really giving Big Dave and me a chance to be together and have fun. We haven't had a fixer upper like this since before Miss Priss was born, and I've really missed working with him. Sure, he gets a little cranky when I'm playing electrician's helper and can't pull a wire through a 50 foot long pvc pipe, but most of the time we have a good time. I think my favorite times are when neither one of us know what the heck we're doing (like the hall floor project) and we look at each other and say, "Well, what would they do on Design to Sell or Property Ladder?" Then we shrug our shoulders and wing it... ah yes, good times. Thank God for HGTV!
Alrighty, now that I've bored you to tears with my home improvement rambling, I'm off to pick up the 4 tons of Spanish moss that the wind blew down in yesterday's storm. I guess it's good excercise right? I'll try not to whine to badly. ;)
LOVE the floor and that is a BIG TREASURE.
